The World Could Not Contain Him (Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign, Day 372)

TEXT: John 21:24-25:

24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.

25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

After preaching the Gospel every day for 367 days straight throughout the 2016 presidential campaign season, I am preaching the Gospel every day throughout the first 100 days of President Donald Trump’s term. If you think a new president being in office is the only thing needed to save America and ‘make America great again’, you are woefully deceived. The church must follow through and “keep the main thing the main thing: and that is reaching unbelievers with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and praying for their salvation, for the problem in America is not only disobedient presidents, politicians, and people, but disobedient pastors, preachers, and parishioners who have refused to obey the Lord’s Great Commission which is to, ‘Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature,’ and who have refused to obey God’s repeated commands to ‘pray without ceasing’ for unbelievers, believers, and political leaders.” So, we encourage you to pray for the new president, but not to get caught up in the political happenings like the world does. Nothing much is going to change until people get saved and get their hearts right with the Lord. And that is what this campaign is all about.

This campaign is inspired by the following three verses: 1 Corinthians 2:2 which says, “For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” Acts 5:42 which says, “And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.” And 2 Timothy 2:4 which says, “No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.”

This series is not for Christians necessarily. However, I do hope you are one of those saints who still loves to hear the “Old, old story of Jesus and His love” — As another hymn says, “For those who know it best Seem hungering and thirsting to hear it like the rest.” This series is primarily for unbelievers, so they can hear and understand the Gospel and be saved from sin and the punishment of sin which is hell. This is message number 372.

Philip Schaff said, “Without writing a single line, Jesus of Nazareth set more pens in motion, and furnished themes for more sermons, orations, discussions, learned volumes, works of art, and songs of praise than the whole army of great men of ancient and modern times.”

John has previously explained that the purpose of his gospel is to get people to believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Savior of the world. At the end of his book, he writes that he alone is the one who testifies of the things which he has written. In other words, he is an eyewitness to all that he has recorded. John puts his name on the line in order to declare that what he has written is factually accurate.

He also puts his reputation on the line, including others’ opinion of his character, when he says, “We know that his testimony is true.” It is believed that John was the disciple who lived the longest after Jesus’ ascension to Heaven. He was one of the fathers of the church whom others looked to and listened to for leadership. John brings all of this influence to bear in order to convince his readers that all that he has written about Jesus is, in fact, true.

John admits, however, that there are “many other things that Jesus did” that he did not write about. The life of Jesus was so full, so magnificent that even John did not attempt to be exhaustive about it. One is reminded of Paul who said he was caught up to the third Heaven where he saw things, heard things, and experienced things that he could not describe. Paul did not say he was commanded not to describe these things; I believe he found that there were simply no words in human language that would allow him to describe what he had experienced accurately.

John likely found himself in a similar situation. There was simply no way he could write about the amount of things Jesus did and be able to communicate that to his readers effectively. Notice John’s next words: “I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written.” That is how rich the life of Jesus is. To express it in words, one would have to write for centuries upon centuries, filling library after library.

The Bible Knowledge Commentary states, “This final verse of John — with its statement about the world not having room for all the books that could be written about Jesus’ deeds — may seem at first glance to be an exorbitant overstatement. Yet the Gospels record only a small sample of Jesus’ words and works. Someone has estimated that a person can read aloud Jesus’ words recorded in the Gospels in only about three hours. But if all that the infinite Son of God said and did in His Incarnation were pondered, the resulting commentary would be endless.”

A search for books about Jesus on Amazon reveals over 270,000 works. Everyone wants to know more about Him. But John did not write his book for us to know about Christ, but to know Christ. We have too many people in the church today who know about Christ, but who do not know Christ. If they did, they would be living differently.

It is impossible for anyone to know all there is to know about Christ because He is bigger than everything. He is beyond measure. He is infinite beyond belief. Yet, He is able to enter our hearts if we believe in Him. And that is the only way one can truly get to know Jesus Christ. If you let Him into your heart, you will experience the fullness of His life as John experienced it.

Deborah Ann Belka wrote:

Lord, how can I explain,
the vastness of Your love
it’d be as hard as counting
all the stars that shine above.

For in my human mind,
I cannot begin to understand
how the greatness of Your love
over the universe can span.

Lord, how can I explain,
all the reasons You love me
it’d be as hard as measuring
all the water in every sea.

For in my human heart,
I cannot begin to comprehend
the magnitude of Your love
that seems to have no end.

Lord, how can I explain,
what I have never felt before
it’d be as hard as numbering
all the sand upon, every shore!

You can begin singing the song of angels and saints even today by giving your heart and life to Christ right now. Here is how you can do that today:

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour!
