Welcome to the Onward Christian Soldier Discipleship Class. I am Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society and pastor of Gospel Light House of Prayer International. The purpose of this time together is to teach young believers everything they need to know about their faith in Jesus Christ and provide them with the knowledge they need to live victorious Christian lives.

Our key Bible passage today is Galatians 4:4-6:

4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

— PRAYER —

Our lesson today is titled “Jesus Christ — the One Who Dwells Within Us.”

In previous lessons, we have learned many wonderful things about the Lord Jesus Christ. We have learned that He is the promised Saviour, He is the mighty God, He is the great Teacher, He is the Lamb of God, He is the risen Lord, He is Lord of all, He is our great Intercessor, and He is our Righteousness. We know also that Jesus Christ is our power, our holiness, our victory, our joy, our strength, and our patience. And, today, we see that Christ has come to live inside of us. Our passage states that “God hath sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts…” Jesus Christ is actually living in us by His Spirit. Every believer has Jesus living inside of them. In fact, Romans 8:9 says, “…if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His” (or he is not a part of the family of God).

Today, we are going to learn more about the indwelling Christ and who He really is.

1. The first truth we must know is that we are made to be indwelled by God. The Bible says that man was created “in the image of God.” We were not only created in the image of God, but we were made in such a way that God Himself could live in us.

A sweater is a piece of clothing made in the form or image of a person. It is not only made in the image of a person, but it is made to be filled with a living person. A sweater does not fulfill its role as an item of clothing until it is filled with a person. In the same way, we will not reach our full potential as human beings until we are filled with the spirit of God through the Lord Jesus Christ.

2. The second truth we must know is that Jesus Christ is God. When Jesus Christ walked on Earth, He told the Jews, “Before Abraham was, I AM.” The Jews understood fully that the name “I AM” belonged only to God. No prophet or king, however great he might be, would dare to use this name for himself. It is a name which belongs exclusively to God; yet Jesus took this name for Himself.

The Jews who did not believe in Him hated Him for this and they tried to kill Him. When Jesus asked them why they wanted to kill Him, they said, “Because you, being a man, make yourself to be God.”

If Jesus were not really God, it would have been terrible for Him to claim to be God. But He was, and is, and always will be God. Jesus told the Jews, “I and My Father are one.” He also said, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.”

When the Spirit of Christ comes to live inside of us, it is as if God Himself has come to live with us every second of the day. One of the names of Jesus Christ is “Immanuel” which means God with us. When we accept the free gift of salvation, we can be certain that God will always be with us because Jesus Christ is God.

3. The third truth we must know is that Jesus Christ is our all in all. Jesus Christ is the one who meets all our needs. And Scripture gives us this wonderful promise in Philippians 4:19, “My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

God already knows of our needs, and He meets all our needs by giving us Christ. The Lord Jesus is the great “I AM.” He is everything we need. In the Bible, Jesus Christ said: “I AM the door.” “I AM the way.” “I AM the truth.” “I AM the light.” “I AM the life.” “I AM the true vine.” “I AM the living bread.” “I AM the good shepherd.” “I AM the resurrection.” “I AM the Alpha and Omega.”

Andrae Crouch wrote a song titled, “Jesus is the Answer.” The first verse goes like this:

If you have some questions
In the corners of your mind,
Traces of discouragement,
The peace you cannot find,
Reflections of your past,
Seem to face you everyday,
But this one thing I do know,
That Jesus is the way.

Jesus is the answer, for the world today,
Above Him there’s no other,
Jesus is the way.

Christ Himself is the answer to all our needs. He is our righteousness, our joy, our peace, our love, our patience, our wisdom, our holiness, our victory — everything we need. Colossians 2:11 says He is our “all in all.” God wants us to see that He has met all our needs by giving us His Son. He has ‘sent forth the Spirit of his Son into our hearts.’ We do not need anything else in this world besides Him.

If you do not know Jesus Christ as your Saviour, John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

The Bible also says in Romans 10:9 and 13: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved…. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and I want to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I want to trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! I want to congratulate you on doing the most important thing in life and that is receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
