The Necessity of Bringing Others to Jesus (Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign, Day 679 since Jan. 20, 2017 / Day 1,044 since Jan. 1, 2016)

TEXT: Matthew 9:32-35

32 As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil.

33 And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.

34 But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils.

35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

Warren Wiersbe said, "The final miracle in this series of healings involved a demon. While there is a difference between sicknesses and demonic workings, the demons do have the power to cause physical afflictions. In this case, the demon made the man mute. Think of what a handicap this would be! Jesus delivered him, and the people admitted that this was a new thing in Israel."

As we return to Matthew chapter 9, we pick up immediately after Jesus healed the two blind men and commanded them to tell no one what had happened to them. The text reveals that as they were on their way out of the house, certain individuals brought a man who could not speak to Jesus. The text says, "they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil." Dr. John MacArthur writes, "The translation suggests that other people brought the dumb man to Jesus while the two former blind men were leaving. But another possible rendering reveals the idea that the two men themselves came across another needy person as they were leaving and immediately brought him to Jesus for healing. If this was the case, they evidenced genuine commitment to Christ by bringing others to Him."

There are hurting people all around us each and every day. You can probably name a few right now who you know are in some kind of physical, spiritual, or mental pain. The question is: Are we doing all we can to bring these people to Jesus? Either the formerly blind man or others in the crowd saw a dumb man in need of healing, and they brought him to Jesus. We cannot force people to receive what Jesus has to offer, but we can bring them to Jesus and help them get in a position to receive healing, deliverance, and salvation.

The mute man, his inability to speak, was not a medical condition, but rather a spiritual one. Verse 33 says, "When the devil was cast out, the dumb spake." This healing reminds us that spiritual afflictions can have physical manifestations. That is why we are wise to seek the Lord in prayer even about what may seem to be purely physical problems. The dumb man and those concerned about him had likely sought medical attention for his condition. However, it was not until he was brought to Jesus that he was healed. "When the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel."

When Jesus is invited by faith into a situation, there will be results. No one who ever came to Christ through faith walked away without receiving what was in God's will for him or her to receive. So come to Christ with all your burdens; and bring others to Christ.

George Lansing Taylor wrote:

O Savior, we are blind and dumb,
To Thee for sight and speech we come;
Touch Thou our eyes with truth's bright rays,
Teach Thou our lips to sing Thy praise.
Help us to feel our mournful night,
And seek, through all things, for Thy light,
Till the glad sentence we receive,
"Be it to you as you believe."
Then swift the dumb to Thee we'll bring,
Till all Thy grace shall see, and sing.

Now, if you are with us today and you do not know Jesus Christ as your Savior, allow me to show you how you can place your faith and trust in Him for Salvation from sin and Hell.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God's law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: "For the wages of sin is death…"

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."

Now that is bad news, but here's the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your Salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.
