Our key Bible verse is 1 Corinthians 10:13: ‘There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.’

Our lesson today is titled “How to Overcome Temptation, Part 7”

We have already looked at two steps to overcome temptation, which are:

1. Count on your death with Christ.
2. Count on Christ’s life in you.

The third step you must take is to arm yourself with the Word of God. Over the past 2 lessons, we have seen how Jesus used the word of God to defeat the devil, and we talked about the importance of hiding the word of God in our hearts to use for that purpose. We also began looking at some “victory verses” to learn in order to use against Satan. We are going to continue looking at three more of these “victory verses” today:

1. Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” The Lord Jesus gives us strength to do whatever He wants us to do. Why? Because He lives in us, and He is the One who does it through us. The Bible Knowledge Commentary states, “Paul said he could do everything—including handling poverty and living in abundance—through Him who gave him strength. This was not an expression of pride in his own abilities but a declaration of the strength provided by Christ.”

2. Ephesians 6:10: “Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.” We are not to be strong in ourselves but we are to be strong in the Lord. This means that we are to count on Him and His mighty power to give us victory. Dr. Warren Weirsbe said: “Paul exhorted believers to be strong in the Lord and in His might — the power that overcomes resistance — of God’s inherent strength. Hence believers can be strengthened not only by the person of the Lord but also by His resources.”

3. Romans 8:31: “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” Child of God, God is for you. You can be sure of this because He says so. Since God is for you, it doesn’t matter who is against you. The Bible Knowledge Commentary states, “Obviously, Satan and his demonic hosts are against believers, but they cannot ultimately prevail and triumph over believers. God is the self-existent One and the sovereign Creator and, since He is for believers, no one can oppose believers successfully.”

If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, in our next lesson, we are going to begin looking at specific verses that address common temptations and how we can use the Word of God to overcome those temptations.

If you do not know Jesus Christ as your Saviour, John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

The Bible also says in Romans 10:9 and 13: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved…. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and I want to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! I want to congratulate you on doing the most important thing in life and that is receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. Jesus Christ said in John 10:9, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”

Until next time, May the Lord Bless You!
